Tuesday morning Alex fell while playing on a playground with his daycare provider and friends. The theory is that he was reaching to play on a piece of equipment typically reserved for “the big kids.” Both of the bones in his forearm are broken – not full breaks, but fractures. Either way, it’s painful and the doctor said his arm was definitely broken.
Today we went to get it casted. To add insult and trauma to injury, Mommy left the x-rays at home on the dining room table. So we had to get them done again. And it really sucked. Luckily we were at a pediatric orthopedics office and they had lots of kid-friendly staff and decor. That helped.
Now that he’s casted in a fancy blue water-safe cast, Alex is feeling and doing much better. Mommy, on the other hand, is freakin‘ exhausted. Physically and emotionally.

OH NO!! POOR ALEX!! Give that baby boy lots of hugs. And pudding. No, no pudding, something that won’t stink if he gets it on his cast. Gummy bears.
Hope he feels better soon!
Oh, poor baby Alex! That sucks for him and even WORSE for Mom!
Why do the breaks always happen during summer vacation, too?
Owww. Kisses to the little man.
Ohhhh …
Poor little guy! I hope it is a minor break.
Oh no! It made me sad just to see the picture. I hope he is ok and it wasn’t too traumatizing!
Oh no, poor Alex. Look at his blue cast. How is he feeling?
Poor Alex
I can’t imagine how you’re doing either!!! I’m so scared of that kind of stuff happening! Hope Alex (and you!) feel better soon!
oh no… poor you guys! what a drag for this to happen. hope you guys all get some rest!
Alex with a cast during the middle of summer is just a huge bummer all around! I hope he feels better and you too~
Oh now! That must have been horrible for both you and Alex! Wishes for a speedy recovery…
BTW, I didn’t know they had invented water safe casts. Awesome.
OH SAD!!! Poor YOU too. I hope you are both feeling great really soon!!!
Poor little guy! Hope you’re both feeling better soon!
Dangit! that sucks! Thankfully the cast is waterproof so it doesn’t totally ruin his summer. I remember when you had to wrap several grocery bags around the cast and secure them with duct tape just to take a shower…oh the agony!
Oh, poor Alex! And poor Mama! I’m glad he has a waterproof cast. I hope the next few weeks go quickly for you guys.
I can’t imagine how hard that would be. But he is a tough little guy so he will heal soon – and hopefully you will too.
That’s tough! I took Kalen to get her blood drawn for food allergy tests and I’m still shaken up about it. And they didn’t even stick her because they couldn’t find a vein!
Oh no! I am SO sorry…that must be horrible to have to go through that. Big hugs and lots of stickers for the cast…
