Note: This post is about my experiences going through the process to get LASIK eye surgery as a brand ambassador of Joffe MediCenter.

I’ve worn glasses since I was 12 years old. I had thought about getting Lasik as an adult, but only know a handful of people who have had Lasik to correct their vision. When I asked them about it, they all said it was the best thing they had ever done and that they wish they had done it sooner. Yet, I never seemed to have the right timing or extra money to pay for it.

So you can imagine how thrilled I was to find out that the team at Joffe MediCenter in Minneapolis was interested in working with me on a special promotion. It seems there are a lot of fears people have about getting Lasik, and that by sharing my experience through social media I would be helping calm the fears and show how great getting Lasik is to correct vision. So in exchange for my time and energy and work to share my experiences, they provided me with complimentary services, including Lasik surgery, which is pretty amazing if you ask me!

I’ve written about my experiences in posts “It’s Really Happening” and “My worries and fears about getting Lasik.” I also told you all about the procedure and how it went in the post “Getting Lasik at Joffe MediCenter” and a two week update here: “Two weeks post-Lasik.” And now I’m about two months out and thought it would be good to give another update sharing how life has changed.

One of the highlights of the past week was attending a speaker reunion for Ignite Minneapolis. If you haven’t heard of it before, there are Ignite talks that happen all around the country. People talk about things they are passionate about in a 5 minute presentation. The catch? You can only have 20 slides and they auto-advance every 15 seconds, whether you’re ready or not!

I’ve attended three of the six Ignite Minneapolis presentations, but was sad to have missed Mykl Roventine’s presentation at the first Ignite evening “When good people pick bad fonts.” Mykl is a friend of mine and I was excited to hear he planned to give a repeat performance at the speaker reunion. It was so funny, especially for people who have a bone to pick with Comic Sans.  Watch now, it will only take 5 minutes.

What would you speak about at an Ignite presentation? They are looking for passionate speakers for the next event – learn more here!

And if you’re interested in my Ignite topic, you can see it here.

It’s my first day of vacation for the holidays and I’m reflecting on all of the things I need to do in the next couple of days (like most of us), plus feeling all the feelings of general merriment and peace from sleeping in and hanging out with my kids for a few hours this morning.

I’ve been working on focusing on one moment at a time and trying not to be overwhelmed, as we all seem to be during the holidays. So far it’s working, even though I had some urgent things pop up for work this morning and needed to put my work hat back on for awhile.

It’s been two and a half weeks since I had LASIK at Joffe MediCenter in Minneapolis and I’m feeling really great about it. The first week was a bit of a daze, as I was constantly adding drops to my eyes and I couldn’t wear make up (even to work, gasp) and I had some trouble focusing on things up close (like my smart phone) and night driving was a bit daunting. But this last week things have really stabalized and I have noticed everything getting better overall. I’ve been able to stop using the prescription drops and now only use the regular over the counter kind — I’ve found it really helps to use the gel version  at night to keep my eyes moisturized through the night.

We went to see Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Musical at the Stages Theatre in Hopkins last weekend and had a wonderful time. You can see Avery was grinning ear to ear sitting next to Rudolph and Hermie after the show. It runs through January 3rd, and if you or your kiddos love the annual TV movie classic of Rudolph, the musical is nearly identical to it. Definitely go see it!

The play was super special for my family, as a certain almost-7 year old has been practically obsessed with Rudolph for about 5 or so years. Here are a few of the fun pictures of her with Rudolph over the years.

She brought Rudolph with her to go see Santa!

She drew this picture for Rudolph and left it with carrots and granola for him to eat when Santa brought presents. You can just barely see her little handwriting that said Rudolph across the top.

And here she fell asleep one night holding Rudolph and wearing antlers on her head. I just can’t… my heart…  and then here’s her little voice just 3 years ago… talking about Rudolph being a love story.

There are also Rudolph books and ornaments and multiple pairs of Rudolph pajamas she has already outgrown. Maybe the fact that her birthday is on Christmas Day has influenced her to embrace the season. 🙂

And I may have picked up a couple extra secret things at the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Musical last weekend…

Hope you are all finding joy and moments of peace this holiday season.
