It's hard for me sometimes, because I'm so on guard about my behavior in so many corners of my life.

I may not be on-air that much, but as a producer for a nationally syndicated radio show, and the Online Content Producer for that show, I'm constantly aware that the way I present myself and the show I work with makes a HUGE difference in how people perceive the show, and of course, me. It's a show that deals in politics, though I'll refrain from saying what kind.

What's even more difficult is that at the current radio complex where I work, a number of people at the local stations bring their kids to work, at all times of the day.

Politics is never an easy subject, and discussions - even among those who agree with your positions - can become heated. Which is exactly the wrong example to set for anyone's kid, IMO. So I often end up working incredibly hard when I'm at work to make sure I'm aware when other people's kids are around, and what example I'm setting for them.

I think I'm doing OK, though. One child was having a debate with a playmate of hers, at the station, a while ago. I was a bit worried their discussion was getting heated - I think they were arguing over a doll's hair - but the child's parent was not in the main area, near my desk. My concern faded when I heard the child say something to her playmate - something that I'd told her, previously, when she was hanging around my desk: "Just because we don't always agree, doesn't mean we have to be mean to one another. Let's just agree to disagree."

You're right, Missy. They pick it up from everywhere, from all of us - friends, neighbors, family, co-workers.

It's a good reminder that we should always watch ourselves as though they're watching us, and try to be better people.

Great reminders Missy! These sort of things come out when we do our 'thankfuls' at the end of the day because besides talking about what we are thankful for we include something we are sorry for. If i cant think of one for myself you can be sure one of my kids will point it out :) this year we added the question 'what are you going to do to help others tomorrow?' as a way to teach them to look beyond their own little corner of the world.

Sometimes i find myself rushing through this time at night but your post reminded me how important that refection can be after the fact.

Keep up the great work Mama!
