Here is the “first day of school” picture from last week. I’d like to say they were really this happy and excited to start school – but the fact is they were tired and a bit nervous. I worked pretty hard to get them to smile so sweetly for this shot. 🙂

My son started second grade at a new school and my daughter started kindergarten at the same school. It was a difficult decision to change schools, but it was the right thing to do for many reasons.

My energy was focused on different things for each child. For my son, how do I help him transition? For my daughter, how do I get her emotionally ready AND prepare her and the school staff/daycare for how to manage severe food allergies?

The great news is that we ALL made it through the week and everyone is adjusting well.

Perhaps adjusting to uniforms is the biggest change for my little one – they have to wear a skort or a dress on Wednesdays for liturgy and she is NOT much of a dress girl. You all know me well enough to know that I hate pushing gender “rules” or stereotypes on my kids, so it’s tough for me to hold firm on this one. But I did, and she wore it. And we all survived.

One week down, many more to go!
